What is Double Opt-In Email Marketing Data?

The email addresses in List4email email marketing lists are all ‘Double Opt-In’, for your legal protection. Recipients have individually confirmed their agreement to receive electronic communications from third parties regarding business related offers, products and services.

List4email data comes from a source that is a UK Direct Marketing Association member, and has always strictly adhered to the codes of practice (available as a PDF), laid down by the organisation. This is especially true when it comes to the email database.

How Are Double Opt-In Email Addresses Collected?
Consent to email is gained from the data subject or in the case of larger organisations from an authorized representative of the data subject. All email addresses are gathered via the telephone and at the point of call it is confirmed:

1. Who the data controller is.
2. What the purpose is for the data being collected is.
3. The implications of the opt-in (they may receive emails).
4. The right to opt-out (this they can do at any time, globally or just to particular offers or types of offers)
5. If they consent to being emailed.
6. Selected third party companies can use the data but only under strict terms and conditions.
7. That they will be sent an email to notify them of their addition to the database.
8. The authorizers name and also explicitly confirm they do have authorization to give these details where the information if given by an authorized representative of the data subject.

A notification email follows. This confirms the data subject’s addition to the database as well as:            

1. How the data was collected.
2. The data owners company contact details.
3. Uses the data might be put to.
4. How the subject can modify their details.
5. How the subject can unsubscribe from the list.
6. The data owners data protection privacy statement.

At all stages of the process the data subject is given the opportunity to opt-out. Also all communications with the data subject are strictly within their commercial capacity.

This process fully complies with current UK email marketing legislation in the form of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.

It is not envisaged that the future email legislation, in the form of directive 2002/58/EC, will impact on the process currently employed as explicit permission is always gained before emailing anyone.
